TOM THOMSON
A contemporary of the Group of Seven, Thomson's untimely death in 1917 didn't let the artist reach his full potential. As a guide for Algonquin Park, Thomson painted en plein air or in the field while doing his duties. Fewer are the paintings that he completed in studio - his preferred studio was a shack in the rear of the Studio Building, Toronto occupied by the artists who would become the Group of Seven.
